David Price is SAWFT
There’s only one word to describe him and I’m going to spell it out for you: S-A-W-F-T
What an unlikable team the Sox are right now, from top to bottom. I’ve been a Red Sox fan since before I could walk. When I turned 18 the first tattoo I got was a Sox tattoo. For Christ sakes I even rooted for ‘Hacksaw’ Johnny Gomes. Basically, it takes a lot for me not to pull for you. But somehow, someway David Price has done that.
I remember when the Sox signed Price. I was in Mexico on vacation when I heard the news. I was ecstatic, I mean who wouldn’t be? The fact that Price was going to bury the hatchet with Ortiz and come to Boston to win a championship got me more excited than buying 2 for one drinks during ‘Happy Hour’.
But somewhere it all fell apart. Between the injuries, the mediocre starts (more of them than I would like to admit), the bad playoff performance, and now this news with Eck, Price has lost his rapport with fans. When the story came out about the fight with Eck I wanted to believe Eck was the bad guy. My dad told me a story of when he met Eck, and he didn’t paint a pretty picture. But in Eck’s defense if you can rock a mustache and mullet for 30+ years I suppose you can do whatever the hell you want.
But when all the details came out it looks like Price was the one who instigated everything and wouldn’t let up. Eck is a World Series champion, MVP, and a member of the MLB Hall of Fame. If he criticizes you and says you suck, you probably do. From what I gathered this all started after Eck said something about E-Rod’s rehab start, it had nothing to do with Price! And don’t get me started on all the players that cheered Price on the plane. That’s a different blog for a different day. Also, Price going on the DL before his scheduled home start after all this makes him look even worse. I had tickets to that game, I even thought about bringing a sign that said ‘YUCK’. But Price took the SAWFT way out.
This may come as a surprise to most of you but I was never an all-star baseball player. Sure, I played hard and never gave up but I wasn’t gifted with athletic ability (or hand eye coordination). But on every team I played on I always did my best to make my teammates happy, and keep everyone on the same page. And people thanked me for it. Because when everyone is getting along and having fun that is when the team is playing their best. If the Sox want to hire me to mediate just give me a call.
As I sit here crushing Twisted Teas (they are delicious, don’t judge) I can only hope Price and the Sox figure it out, and figure it out quick. With the Evil Empire picking up Sonny Gray and having the Blue Monstar from Space Jam the Sox don’t have a lot of room for error. I love this team more than most of my family, I just hope they don’t turn into that crazy Aunt that no one wants to talk to anymore.
